Is there any difference between the Marantz SR7012 and the Marantz SR7013. I know that the 7013 is a newer model, from what I can see, they are very much alike. The 7012 is nearly half the cost of the 7013.

The differences between them are described in the first post of the thread https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...sts-1-7-a.html
The SR7012 has been discontinued and won't be available much longer.

I am doing this same research and even Marantz's own comparison has virtually no differences between the two unit. Crutchfield's comparison shows... no difference. The SR-7012 received a firmware update that included Airplay 2 which really isn't a huge deal but really nice to see manufactures doing updates to existing hardware.. Is there really any hardware or software differences here between these units that justifies the extra $1,000 price tag?

Attempting to add comparison links back into thread as previous one should have met the 5th thread requirement to add links/images to posts. :: sigh :: lol

This appears to be a really good year to go with the previous year's model. Very little has changed from the SR7012 to the SR7013 that will likely make a significant difference. For the SR6012/SR6013 purchase decision, going with the SR6012 (the previous model) seems a really, really good idea.
Perhaps new product budgets currently are being concentrated on the really challenging parts of the move to HDMI 2.1, the much higher data speeds and lots of firmware development. That's seems logical. When we'll see all of the new HDMI 2.1 capabilities is unknown.

Adding the conversation the Marantz comparison between all four. I concur with bigguyca. Pulling the trigger and saving some cash.

The major additions in the 2018 models that I'm aware of are the addition of of IMAX Enhanced, the Web interface, and two remote support protocols. More intangible is the availability of firmware updates for an additional year.

Face it, this is a slow year for new AVR's and AVP's. At least it's not like the higher end Yamaha units where feature discussions center around features that have been removed in the 2018 units.
This is an interesting press release that's a couple months old from Synopsys concerning LG's plans for HDMI 2.1. The point here isn't talk about TV's, but that a premiere TV brand is moving ahead.
50lhttps://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300714350.html
The intellectual property (IP) sold by Synopsys seems to cover much of the functionality that exists in the three Panasonic HDMI switches that presently are used in higher level Denon/Marantz/Yamaha AVR's and AVP's. This IP also seems to cover the manufacturing data required to transfer the designs into production at TSMC. The IP also seems to cover some the functionality that is currently implemented in proprietary IC's. It appears significant added IP would be required to implement the full HDMI 2.1 functionality however.
This link has a graphic that gives an idea of the functionality:
https://www.synopsys.com/designware-...e-ip/hdmi.html
Likely a company or a group of companies in Japan is working on a replacement for the Panasonic IC's to be used by Denon/Marantz/Yamaha and others. Perhaps they will just use this IP.
